THE FIRST HOURS OF YOUR WORK
Work for the university.
Pay the university back.
The first 69.1 hours pay recurring fees — roughly 35 hours each semester. Insurance takes another 95.1 hours.
Equivalent labor time = each charge ÷ gross stipend × appointment hours. This is an illustration of cash compensation, not an hourly wage stated in your contract.
Illustrative 20 hours/week × 16 weeks/term; not an audited appointment schedule. Adjust to your actual schedule; changing hours does not change the cash calculation.

Fair questions
About these numbers.
Doesn’t the tuition scholarship count for something?
Yes. It has real educational value. It also cannot pay rent or buy groceries. We show the tuition benefit separately from cash pay and ask whether the stipend covers the costs left to the worker.

Is this what every graduate assistant earns?

What if I waive the university health plan?
Select other coverage and enter your own premium for the selected period, including an explicit zero if you pay nothing. A waiver does not necessarily mean health care is free. Deductibles and treatment costs are separate from premiums.

Is the cost-of-attendance figure a bill?
No. It is the university’s published planning estimate. Our non-tuition benchmark includes housing and food, personal expenses, transportation, and books and supplies. Actual needs vary. We exclude separately remitted tuition and fees to avoid counting them twice.
